Literature Text

“I don’t like this place…” the boy said judgmentally. He looked up at the Pink Palace. The place literally looked like it was about a hundred years old. Some of the walls were slightly cracked, and there were weeds and brambles that were poking out from underneath the apartments. Its pink walls were faded, and the neighbors looked as if they were just as old as the building.  “But we just got here, Alois” his mother sighed. “You’ll get used to it eventually.” “That’s right” said his father. “Soon, you’ll start school, and you’ll make plenty of new friends!” he assured. “I don’t want new friends! I was perfectly fine with the friends I had in London!” Alois’ mother just rolled her eyes and went inside to clean. His father was right behind her, and he began to unpack boxes. Alois groaned, annoyed.

It was 2014 in Salem, Oregon. 14 year old Alois Landers and his family had just moved here all the way from London, England. Alois’ mother and father, Ash and Angela Landers, often worked in the Church. They were very religious, and they often tried to force their beliefs on poor Alois. However, Alois could care less about religion. His parents were also clean freaks, and they constantly made sure that the house was completely spotless. They also never allowed Alois to participate in any parties at school. They would say that they would make him “impure”. In other words, Alois’ life was very dull and boring, and unfortunately, that lifestyle didn't suit the boy. Alois wished that for once in his life, he would go on an adventure. He just wanted something interesting happen…

“Alois,” Angela called. “Hurry up and help your sister bring her bags in. It’s about to rain soon, and you know how I feel about mud.” “Fine…” Alois sighed. He slowly walked over to one of his sister’s bags. “Don’t touch that, you little brat!” His older sister shouted and then shoved him. “You know that I don’t like you touching my things!” she exclaimed. “If I catch you going near my bags, I’m going to kill you!” She then grabbed her bags and stormed off inside, Leaving Alois alone in the yard. “Alois! Come inside now! It’s starting to rain!” Angela yelled. Alois groaned and went inside.

Oh, how could I forget about Alois’ older sister. In his perspective, she’s basically a witch. Also, for some strange reason, his parents preferred her over him. They let her dye her hair silver, but when Alois wanted purple highlights in his hair, they threw a hissy fit saying that it was “improper” for a young man to dye his hair, and that it was “impure”. Also, his sister would bully him from time to time, but of course, their parents never noticed. Alois tried to tell on her multiple times, but they never believed him. They thought that she was too “innocent” to do such things. Alois hated his sister, and he wishes that one day, she would get a taste of her own medicine. Oh, and her name is Hannah.
